April Council Update
April 27, 2026
Good Evening, CAC Scouting Family!
It is hard to believe summer is right around the corner. Pretty soon, both Camp Hansen and Brown will welcome Scouts from all over Kansas and parts of Nebraska. For Camp Hansen, our registrations should end up over where we were in 2025! Last year, we had 179 Scouts attend and we are at 177 with two or three additional Troops expected to register. Brown has 272 Scouts registered compared to 315 in 2025. Early bird registration for Cub Resident Camp ends on Friday, May 1st. So, we are off to a good start for camping!
Another positive update we received during our 2026 Popcorn Summit from our Campmasters Popcorn Sales Rep is that we can sell meat sticks at the same time we sell their popcorn. We sign an agreement with Campmasters every year and there has been a clause about not selling items while we sell their popcorn. Due to one of our volunteer participants asking the right question, we found out that meat sticks are acceptable. Please start thinking about how this change might positively impact your fall sale.
Some other updates from the Popcorn Summit is we are moving the sale out and will start the sale in September and end in November. The actuals will be as follows:
Sale Start- Saturday, September 19th
Sale End- Sunday, November 8th
Show N Sale orders will be due Tuesday, September 1st, for a September delivery.
Final orders will be due on Tuesday, November 10th, with expected delivery in the first part of December. We will need to confirm how our new timeline affects that delivery.
Lastly, they are paring down their list of items from 17 to 9 to sell. We will have more details on this as we get closer to August.
We know many of you are wondering what is going on with the Council Program Support Fee. For now, we are announcing that the Council Program Support Fee will be put on a temporary hold. On Tuesday, April 14th, Paul Adams (Council President), Bob Hamman (Council Board Member and Compass Committee Chair), Eric Williams (Council Board Member and Compass Committee Member) and Kyle Smith met with the Council President, Council Relationships Committee Chair, and Scout Executive along with the Territory 5 Director and Chair to start the discussion about merging the Quivira Council with the Coronado Area Council. The Compass Committee has started meeting and working on the plan for this merger. We know this creates a bunch of questions and as we are able to announce things as they become clear, we will do so. For now, please understand that both councils believe this is the best way forward for a strong and healthy Scouting program in Kansas. With the announcement of starting the discussion about merging with the Quivira Council once this is resolved and the Program Fee is agreed upon, it will be put back on track for implementation.
