Unit Fundraising

Recently there was a really nice article about one of our Troops going to Philmont with interview quotes from Scouts about their experience. What was also mentioned was the list of fundraising opportunities the Scouts participated in. Without knowing all the details about the gun raffle, raffles or games of chance are prohibited fundraising activities for Scout units. Conducting a raffle or games of chance for a fundraiser can put your charter organizations tax exempt status in jeopardy.

Should you decide to do a raffle or game of chance it needs to be sponsored with tickets displaying the name of the sponsor and the statement proceeds benefiting Pack/Troop XXX. The sponsor then must write a check to the Pack or Troop for the amount benefiting them.

Lastly, before you start any non council sponsored fundraising activity a Unit Money Earning Project form must be filled out including a signature from your Charter Organization Representative and submitted to your district executive. Use of this form ensures your fundraising project is not in violation of anything that will create an issue with your Charter Organization.

We understand there are many different options for doing a fundraiser. We hope you would participate in popcorn sales. Not only does it help your Pack/Troop it also helps support the council and our ability to help you be successful. Popcorn sales also keeps your Pack/ Troop from spending any money up front purchasing merchandise to sell. Your investment with the popcorn sale is time only, not financially.

A copy of the Unit Money Earning Project form is attached for your use.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
